The Temple of the Five Concubines in Tainan City, also known as the Tomb of Five loyalty in the early days, was the buried place of the five concubines of King Ning Jing of the Ming Dynasty. In 1683, Shi Lang captured Penghu, and Zheng Keyu deliberately surrendered to the Qing Dynasty. King Ning Jing was determined to commit suicide and die his country. He told his five concubines Yuan, Wang, Xiugu, Mei and He, and hoped that they would survive by themselves. Unexpectedly, the five concubines all chose to commit suicide with King Ning Jing after learning. Later generations were moved by their loyalty, so a temple was built to commemorate them.

位於台南市的五妃廟，早期又稱五烈墓，是明朝寧靖王五位妃子的埋身之處。1683年施琅攻下澎湖，鄭克塽有意投降滿清。寧靖王因此決心自殺殉國，他將其心意告訴袁氏、王氏、秀姑、梅姐及荷姐這五位妃子，希望她們自行求生。未料五位妃子得知後均選擇與寧靖王自盡保節。後世因其忠誠感動，故建廟紀念她們。

The Temple of the Five Concubines was originally a tomb without monuments and trees. In the Qing Dynasty, temples were added for sacrifices. After many renovations, it has its current landscape. The park covers an area of about 3,000 square meters and looks like a park as a whole.

五妃廟本是一無碑無樹的墓塋，於清代增建廟宇祭祀，爾後歷經多次整修才有現今園貌，園區佔地約三千坪，整體像一座公園。

The Temple of the Five Concubines is a so-called single-entry and two-guarded dragon-style building. The temple inside is connected to the tomb. The main structure of the temple is small, and the roof is shaped like a hard mountain-like swallowtail ridge.

五妃廟是所謂單進兩護龍式建築，裡面的廟宇與墓塋相連，廟宇主體格局不大,屋頂造型則為硬山式燕尾翹脊。

“The Fangci Temple is always next to Chengnan Road, and the jade bones are long buried in Guizi Mountain." In the past, this was a tomb area, and Guizi Mountain was formerly called “Guizi Mountain" in a homophonic. The painting of the Wufei Temple is the only one in Taiwan. The princess died and died, so the door god is based on eunuchs and court ladies. The eunuch hand offers peonies and a pot furnace, which means blessings, longevity and many children; court ladies hand offers pots, peaches, and pomegranates, Yu Xianhuaxianxiang and wealth and salaries.

「芳祠永傍城南路，玉骨長埋桂子山。」昔日這裡為墓區，舊稱桂子山為「鬼仔山」諧音。五妃廟彩繪是全台灣唯一僅有的。王妃歿而神，故門神是以太監、宮女為題材。太監手奉牡丹、鼎爐，有多福多壽與多子之意；宮女手奉壺、桃、石榴，喻獻花獻香與富貴薪傳。

In the left and right guarding dragon wing, there are pictures and texts for the guide, the historical archive photos of the Wufei Temple, and the introduction and restoration of the historical sites.

左右護龍廂房內，有導覽解說圖文，上頭有五妃廟的歷史存檔照片，以及古蹟的介紹及修復始末。

The concubine Wang Jindan’s heart is full of feasts, and he stays in the Qing mound, and walks into the temple. The statue of the five concubines is enshrined in the main hall. There is also a tombstone in the back that is engraved with “The Tomb of the Five Consorts of King Ning Jing from the Death".

王盡丹心妃盡節，地留青塚史留芳，走進廟內，正殿上供奉著五妃的塑像。後面還有一個墓碑上頭刻著「寧靖王從死五妃墓」。

Next to the temple, there is the “Stele of the Five Concubines" written by the governor of Tainan Prefecture, Takashi Kita, during the Japanese occupation. After reading the inscription, Coco sighed that the decision made now may affect the history more than 300 years later.

在廟旁，擺著有日治時期臺南州知事喜多孝治手撰「五妃之碑」。讀完碑文後，可可有種感嘆，當下做的決定，影響的可能是長達三百多年後的歷史。

There is also a “Yi Lingjun Shrine" near the temple, where the sacrifices were made to two servants who died in the death of King Ningjing.

廟旁附近還有一座「義靈君祠」，祭祀的是兩名隋寧靖王殉死的侍官。

Before leaving, I took a picture of the tomb behind the temple, and sighed at the tragedy of the five concubines and the servants. In fact, they really did nothing wrong, but they were born out of time. END
