Although this article is about Checheng Wood Industry Pavilion, because the entire park contains wood industry, railways, hydroelectric power… and other industrial cultures, we will introduce them all together.

If you ask Coco, what are the fun attractions in Nantou, Coco would not recommend Sun Moon Lake, Xitou and other attractions. Coco will tell you that Checheng is the only option. Maybe he doesn’t have many tourists, but it has many great elements.

When the car is parked, the first thing that comes into view is Mingtan Reservoir. This is an artificial lake built for a “pumped storage hydroelectric power plant" Excess electricity at night will be used to extract water from this reservoir and send it back to the upstream Sun Moon Lake for storage. This method can effectively reduce energy consumption and is less pollution-free.

The Mingtan Power Plant next to it is currently Taiwan’s largest hydroelectric power plant and the hub of Taiwan’s hydroelectric power plant.

Leaving the parking lot and walking forward, you will see the indicator towards Checheng train Station. Just follow the signs. The indicators here are very clear. Maybe the names are a little different, but they all point to the same place.

Arriving in the park, there is a beautiful turquoise pool. In the early days, it was a wood storage pond. Soaking logs in the pond has the function of extending the life of the wood and preventing the wood from drying out.

Crane used to hang logs, Because can’t move, so the wood is pushed to the position by manpower and then lifted into the water by the crane.

Next to the wood storage pond is the “Checheng Wood Industry Exhibition Hall" that was rebuilt from the old factory building. The old factory wood and steel frame are rebuilt with a Japanese-style and modern avant-garde exhibition hall. It won the Taiwan Architecture Award in 2009.

The layout of the wooden pavilion, business hours are AM9:30~PM17:30, free admission, the factory area is a bit large. It is divided into the first and second floors, and make a record to avoid getting lost.

The sawing process is displayed in the park, and the old machines are combined with the vivid wax statues, as if going back to the past and vaguely experiencing the hard work of the time.

The wooden exhibition hall also sells some wooden works, such as postcards, coasters, and artworks. The biggest feature of wooden products is that they emit a light woody fragrance. If you like, you can buy some small accessories as a souvenir.

In addition to selling wooden products, the park also provides a DIY experience of wooden products, teaching you how to make wooden tables, wooden chairs, etc., suitable for parents and children to interact with their children.

Leaving the exhibition hall, we arrived at Checheng train Station. The Checheng is located below Sun Moon Lake in Puli Township, Nantou County. During the Japanese Occupation, the cane sugar transported from Puli Township was gathered here and transported by railway. Because there were often hundreds of cars parked here, some people called it here in the Hokkien dialect. " car park “, Since then, the place name here has become “Checheng”.

Checheng train Station is still operating normally, and the operating hours are from AM7:00 to PM:22:40. Passengers can take a train from the Jiji branch line. It is a great boon for those who are lazy to drive. “Train timetable

An old train CK124 is also displayed next to the station. Early trains were powered by coal-fired steam. In recent years, he can still be seen driving in the “Nantou Train Festival".

Go back to take pictures of railway tracks and caves at the station. The Jiji branch line starts from Ershui, crosses the source spring, muddy water, Longquan, Jiji, and the water, and finally arrives at Checheng. It is not just a landscape along the way. Each station also contains many agricultural and industrial cultures. It is recommended to arrange a day trip.

The journey always needs an end. Before leaving, take a stroll around Checheng Old Street. This has witnessed the prosperity and decline of Checheng, but the renewed prosperity brought by sightseeing may be an unexpected surprise. END

END
