西元1858年，中國的清朝由於鴉片戰爭戰敗，被迫開放臺灣淡水、雞籠、安平、打狗四個港口。因此英國在1861年，在現今高雄港的打狗正式開埠。並在1864將英國領事館從淡水遷至打狗，正式的設置海關。

打狗英國領事館文化園區共分兩個部份，一處是位在哨船頭山上的領事館官邸，另一處則是靠著海邊的英國領事館。從西子灣停車場旁邊，可以看到前往領事館官邸的指標。

因為領事館官邸位在哨船頭山頂，所以必須走一段階梯。哨船頭山僅海拔25公尺，是個蠻適合小散步、運動的好地方。

爬到山頂會看到售票處，門票全票為99元、優待票適合學生與高雄市民僅需49元、哨船頭里民則可以免費入場。

雖然可可付了99元的門票，但是門票在園區內是可以做消費折抵30元的。所以，其實並不算貴，另外，園區還加送了文化遊艇抵用卷，讓有興趣在碼頭搭乘遊艇的遊客可以搭配使用。

「打狗英國領事館官邸」為後巴洛克式建築，由英國人設計施工，興建時所使用的尺寸皆為英碼及英呎，建築物主要材料為紅磚、花崗石、三合土、咾咕石、木材等，可可很喜歡外牆連續的半圓形拱廊，相當具有美感。

明朝、清朝時代，貿易銀元為當時沿海地區貿易的非官方貨幣，館內展示的貨幣的種類相當多，除了英國、法國外，還可以看到墨西哥、西班牙、日本的銀幣，可想像得出來，打狗港當時貿易的繁榮情景。

園區的商品與餐飲是委由「古典玫瑰園」來經營，是台灣相當知名的英國茶連鎖店，英國建築搭配英國茶，整個氛圍彷彿回到了200年前。
