1949年，中華民國政府自中國大陸撤退，高雄成為海軍與陸軍單位的重要駐地。政府為了安頓這些撤退來台灣的軍官兵與眷屬，便在高雄為這些國軍及其眷屬尋找宿舍讓他們在此居住。「將軍好宅」就是一位海軍將軍的住宅，其規模在當時可說是最高級別的宿舍。

In 1949, the government of the Republic of China withdrew from mainland China, and Kaohsiung became an important base for naval and army units. In order to accommodate these officers, soldiers and their relatives who had retreated to Taiwan, the government found dormitories for these national troops and their relatives in Kaohsiung so that they could live here. The “General’s House" was the residence of a naval admiral, and it was the highest-ranking dormitory at the time.

參觀是免費的，進入前請脫鞋。屋內有些禁止事項，如不可以飲食、不可以觸摸展示品、必須全程配戴口罩…等。

Admission is free, please take off your shoes before entering. There are some prohibited items in the house, such as not eating or drinking, not touching the exhibits, wearing a mask at all times, etc.

屋內的空間不算大，卻相當的完整，大約是三房二廳的格局，每個房間則陳列著屬於這個家庭不同身分的展示品。

The space in the house is not large, but it is quite complete. It is roughly the layout of three bedrooms and two living rooms. Each room displays exhibits belonging to different identities of the family.

在物資缺乏的時代，客廳是生活的主要空間，電視、收音機，電器用品在當時是十分珍貴的。偶而，當有客人來時，玩個不賭博的麻將，話話家常。

In the era of shortage of materials, the living room was the main space of life. TV, radio, and electrical appliances were very precious at that time. Occasionally, when there are guests, playing a non-gambling mahjong, talking like a regular.

台灣食物的多元與美味，大部分來自這些中國撤退來台灣的軍人，他們從自己的故鄉帶來了不同的美食，臘肉、東坡肉、獅子頭、水餃、饅頭、蔥油餅，這些都是原汁原味的從中國流傳至台灣。滿字貼在廚房有個特別的意義，希望米缸的米永遠滿滿的，人們不必挨餓。

The diversity and deliciousness of Taiwanese food are mostly from these Chinese soldiers who retreated to Taiwan. They brought different delicacies from their hometowns, such as bacon, Dongpo meat, lion head, dumplings, steamed buns, and scallion pancakes. These are all original juices. The original flavor spread from China to Taiwan. The full word sticker in the kitchen has a special meaning. I hope that the rice jar will always be full of rice, and people will not have to go hungry.

父親的房間，白色的海軍軍服與軍帽，以及擦到發亮的白皮鞋。想像著父親坐在椅子上，抽著國家發放的香菸，這讓當時身為小孩的我們，永遠對父親這個腳色抱持著一種敬畏感。

Father’s room, white navy uniform and cap, and shiny white shoes. Imagining my father sitting on a chair and smoking a cigarette issued by the state made us, as children, always have a sense of awe for the role of our father.

軍人的職業，讓父親需長時間在外地工作，眷村的生活中，家裡最舉足輕重的腳色就是母親了，在家中除了廚房，母親最常待的地方就是坐在腳踩式的縫紉機上車著布料。如需要出門參加重要場合時，便會看到母親身著旗袍，華麗且相當的典雅。

As a soldier, my father has to work in the field for a long time. In the life of the military dependents’ village, the most important role in the family is the mother. In addition to the kitchen, the most common place for my mother is to sit on a foot-operated sewing machine and sew. If you need to go out for important occasions, you will see your mother wearing a cheongsam, which is gorgeous and quite elegant.

孩童的房間，充滿著可可孩童時的回憶。彈弓、竹槍、紙牌皆為可可幼時的玩具。算盤、作業簿也都跟可可國小時後用的一樣。

The children’s room is full of memories of Coco’s childhood. Slingshots, bamboo guns, and playing cards were all toys of Coco’s childhood. The abacus and workbook are also the same as those used after Cocoa Hour.

坐落於窗前的木製書桌以及檯燈。也是可可學生時代的回憶。一切都像是回到30年前一般。

There is a wooden desk and lamp in front of the window. It is also a memory of Coco’s student days. Everything is like going back 30 years.

室內參觀完畢，可以在庭院的樹下的鞦韆小憩。坐在鞦韆上欣賞著綠映盎然的庭院景色。

After the indoor visit, you can rest on the swing under the tree in the courtyard. Sit on the swing and enjoy the view of the green courtyard.

離開前，捨不得的回頭補拍這座充滿日式風格的舊軍眷。重新整修過後的老屋，不僅讓遊客能體驗到1960年代眷村的生活，也確確實實證明了，那段歷史的存在。END
