Coco has been thinking about how to express this tour, and finally decided to introduce it separately. Because I want to record a lot, but often forget things. Farewell 886, Admiral’s Residence and The corner 12-1 All are in Taiwan Military Veteran Village of Mingde New Village in Kaohsiung.

In 1949, the government of the Republic of China withdrew from mainland China, and Kaohsiung became an important base for naval and army units. In order to settle the military officers and their relatives who came to Taiwan, the government found a place to live in Kaohsiung for these national troops and their relatives. Mingde New Village was originally the dormitory of the Japanese Navy Fleet dormitory. After the government took over it, it was used by the National Army. It was also called “Admiral Village" because four chiefs of staff and seven commanders of the navy lived there.

There is a fee for the entrance room, because the park is large, and the general public is 35 TWD; the admission fee for groups of more than 20 people is 30 TWD; the 65 year old or Kaohsiung citizens are 25 TWD; children under 120 cm or have handicap handbook people are free.

Farewell 886 Park is divided into four exhibition areas, the cultural inheritance corner, the room of time traveling, the military Veteran Village Trend ,and the social club in the village. Each exhibition area has a different style of display content.

The buildings in the park have been renovated, probably because they used to be Japanese dormitories in the past. Therefore, the house is more like a Japanese architectural style, but the wooden doors, sloping roof tiles and courtyards are all scenery that can only be found in the military military village in memory.

Because the interior of the exhibition area is wooden floor, you must take off your shoes when entering the house. As for the order of visits, just read them all.

The social club in the village is based on the theme of “Second and Three Things in Zuoying".The content on display is mainly about the life of military relatives in the community after they came to Taiwan.

Military dependents’ villages are usually planned to be divided into the military area, so when entering and leaving the military dependents’ village, you must present a residence permit. If a person from outside the village wants to enter, he must register and be brought into the village by the person being visited. Inside and outside are like two worlds.

In the early days of the Nationalist government’s arrival in Taiwan, the life of the soldiers and their dependents was very difficult. The government began to distribute military rations and daily necessities in 1953, which made the life of the dependents’ village slightly improved. To receive materials, a family supplement certificate is required, and the family support certificate contains the photo of the recipient, the names of officers and soldiers, and the names of family members…etc.

At that time, because of the Vietnam War, a considerable number of US troops were stationed in Asia. In order to relax the rotation of US troops from Vietnam to Taiwan, many cities were designated as vacation spots for the US military. The tourism income brought by at that time stabilized Taiwan’s economy.

In the age of no mobile phone, watching movies is a luxury enjoyment. Kai-shek Hall and Yat-sen Hall will play movies from time to time. However, because it is under the jurisdiction of the military, the service targets are limited to officers and soldiers and their relatives. It is a benefit that can only be enjoyed by the children of officers and soldiers.

Appreciating drama was also an early leisure activity. Henan Opera, which originated in Henan Province, was favored by Chiang Kai-shek, and with the support of the military, it stood on a three-pronged basis with Gezi Opera and Peking Opera in Taiwanese society.

The military Veteran Village Trend records the decline and rebirth of the military-related villages. With the social transformation, the population of the military-related villages gradually withered. The lodgings are gradually damaged. Under the trend of advocating land activation and preserving ancient buildings, how can people use new elements to continue the rich life texture and living functions of military villages.

Dependents’ Villages are unique cultural assets in Taiwan’s history. In order to preserve the culture of Dependents’ Villages, the Ministry of National Defense has selected 13 Dependents’ Villages as cultural preservation areas since 2017. It is hoped that by injecting new elements, these old Dependents’ Villages The village is given new life. Judging from Farewell 886, the planning is quite good.

A long wooden corridor with bright floor-to-ceiling windows. Looking at the old trees and turf outside, it really makes people feel very comfortable.

“Two skies" is a comparison of how China and Taiwan lived different lives in the same era after the war. Even today, 70 years later, the two sides are still arguing about this history.

At that time, Taiwan still had the idea of counterattacking China, so it was quite easy to see these slogans and slogans of counterattacking China in military military villages.

The display cabinet also displays various military-level items of the three branches of the army, navy, and air force. It is said that some medals must be obtained by special merit.

The room of time traveling tells the story of the time when military family members crossed the sea and drifted to settle down. With the documentary photos at that time, old suitcases, cannonball boxes, rice jars, etc., these things let us know more about the past. The history and memory of the military village.

The influence of food on Taiwan is quite far-reaching. From military relatives from all over China, all the authentic delicacies of their hometowns are brought together in the military dependents’ village. To Today, these most authentic delicacies can be tasted around military villages.

In the festival surrounding the fire, mother plays an extremely important role. The table full of special dishes is a collection of delicacies from all over the world. On that day, you will see that mother is busy from morning to night, just to let the wanderers who return to their hometown taste the taste of home.

Father are serious to children. Father who don’t talk much always wear white military uniforms and caps, as well as shiny white leather shoes. They go out early and return late. This made us, as children at that time, hold a sense of awe for the role of our father.

Father’s desk, there is a navy suit for you to wear and experience the feeling of being a naval commander. There is no additional charge for taking pictures in a navy suit.

In the era of shortage of materials, the living room was the main space of life. TV, radio, and electrical appliances were very precious at that time. Occasionally, when there are guests, playing a non-gambling mahjong, talking like a regular.

There are many old antiques on the cabinets. In the past, the telephone was dialed by dial. Wedding commemorative photos are only black and white, these are childhood memories.

In addition to selling cultural and creative products, the cultural inheritance corner also sells some historical objects such as military clothing, equipment, badges, etc. Coco likes this self-sufficient model. After all, it is impossible to operate sustainably with temporary preferences or subsidies. .

When you are done visiting the Farewell 886 Park, don’t rush to leave. Outside the park, you can continue to Admiral’s Residence and The corner 12-1. Don’t pass by like Coco. END

END
