Founded in 1831, Lantian Academy is an official academy built by the Qing Dynasty to Sinicize the aborigines. The academy was built in southern Fujian style, and it is listed as one of the three historic academies in Nantou County together with Mingxin Academy in Jiji Town and Dengying Academy in Caotun Town.

藍田書院創建於1831年，是清朝為了漢化原住民所興建的官方書院。書院以閩南式建築興建，與集集鎮明新書院、草屯鎮登瀛書院並列為南投縣三大古蹟書院。

入口旁有介紹書院的簡介，介紹書院內部的建築布置位置與修建歷史。

There are several stone tablets beside the wall. In addition to inscribing the history of the construction of the Shuyuan, some of them have the names of the people who donated to build the Academy at that time engraved on them. The old steles were damaged by the earthquake in 1999, and are now being rebuilt.

圍牆的旁邊有幾塊石碑，除了刻寫書苑的建造歷史外，其中有幾面上頭刻有當時捐獻建造書院人的名字。舊石碑在1999年大地震時損壞了，現在都是重建的。

The academy has a screen wall facing the main entrance, which is common in larger buildings in Taiwan. In addition to being used to block passers-by from peeping, the screen wall also has the function of avoiding evil spirits.

書院有一道面對正門的照壁，在台灣較大的建築物中常見。照壁除了用來遮擋路人偷窺，也有避邪的作用。

Under the screen wall is half moon pool, which is semicircular in shape and has the functions of disaster prevention, climate adjustment and feng shui change.

照壁下為泮池，呈半圓形，具有防災、調節氣候及改變風水的功能。

Respect word Pavilion is also called cherish word Pavilion. Ancient texts are very precious. Do not throw away written paper. It must be sent to the Jingzi Pavilion for burning.

敬字亭又稱惜字亭。古時文字是十分珍貴的。寫過字的紙張不能隨便丟棄。必須送到敬字亭焚燒。

The wing rooms on both sides of the main hall were the places where students attended classes and read books in the early days.

正殿兩側的廂房是早期為學生上課讀書的地方。

Before entering the temple, please remember that the door in the middle of the temple is only for gods to enter and exit. The right hand side is the “Dragon door" and the left hand side is the " Tiger door", so we must enter from the right door and leave from the left door. " Into the dragon’s mouth, leave the tiger’s mouth" means to seek good fortune and avoid evil.

在進入寺廟前，請記住，廟宇中間的門僅供神明進出，右手邊為「龍門」，左手邊則是「虎門」，所以我們必須從右門進入，左門離開，據有「入龍喉，離虎口」趨吉避凶的意思。

The master of Lantian Academy worships Emperor Wenchang, he is in charge of the exam. Therefore, when the examination season comes, many candidates will go to the academy to light a bright lamp and report their names to Emperor Wenchang, hoping that the god will bless the candidates for the gold list title.

藍田書院主祀文昌帝君，文昌君掌管考試運，所以在考季來臨時，許多考生會到書院點一盞光明燈，將自己的名字向文昌帝君報告，希望神明能保佑考生金榜題名。

On the wall of the main hall, there are wooden carvings of the Twenty-Four Filial Piety, which is a folk story spread in China. Each piece of work represents a story. Although the ways of filial piety are different, the heart of filial piety to parents is the same.

正殿的牆壁上，鑲著二十四孝的木雕，這是流傳於中國的民間故事，每一幅作品都代表了一個故事，孝順的方式雖不相同，但對父母孝順的心是一樣的。

The wing rooms on both sides are connected by Rain Corridor. Although the scale is not large, it is considered a fairly complete Fujian-style building.

兩側的廂房，以過水廊連接，規模雖然不大，但算是相當完善的閩式建築。

The apse is a newly built reinforced concrete building, and the first floor is the space for today’s students to study.

後殿為新建的鋼筋混凝土建築，一樓為現今學子讀書的空間。

The second floor of the apse is dedicated to the gods of the most holy teacher Confucius and his seventy-two students.

後殿的二樓則供奉著至聖先師孔子與他的七十二位學生的神位。

Looking at the whole picture of the academy from the second floor, the blue sky and the antique old house, I have to say, this is the most beautiful scenery of this trip.

從二樓挑望著書院的全貌，藍天搭配古色古香的老屋，不得不說，這是這次旅行最美的風景。

The dovetail-style roof with a single ridge on the hard mountain, combined with the dragon scissors that roll up at the tail bar, and the scissors of flowers and plants on the belly of the ridge, the combination of the three forms a very beautiful picture.

硬山單脊燕尾式的屋頂，搭配尾吧上揚捲的龍剪黏，脊腹則有花草剪黏，三者結合出一幅相當精美的畫面。
