Today we are visiting a century-old railway heritage site hidden in the forests of Sanyi Township, Miaoli County—"Shengxing Station".
今天要去的是一個藏在苗栗縣三義鄉山林間的百年鐵道古蹟—「勝興車站」。
Since the car was parked at the end of the old street, I entered through the plaza next to the station, where a super cute train mascot figurine was welcoming everyone! Wearing a large yellow conical hat decorated with little trains and flashing a cheerful peace sign, I just had to take a photo with it to record the joyful moment of this trip.
因為車停在老街尾端，所以可可是從車站旁的廣場進入，有這個超級可愛的火車頭吉祥物公仔在迎接大家！它戴著畫有小火車的黃色大斗笠，比著開心的YA，可可當然也要在這裡和它合照一張，記錄這趟旅行的歡樂瞬間。
Built in 1906, “Shengxing Station" is the highest point of Taiwan’s Western Trunk Railway. The entire station was constructed completely by interlocking wooden beams without using a single nail, and it stood firm even after the devastating 921 earthquake. Standing in front of this wooden station that exudes a classic Japanese atmosphere, it feels as if time has slowed down.
建於1906年的「勝興車站」，是台灣西部縱貫鐵路的最高點。整座車站完全由木頭拼接而成，沒有使用任何一根釘子，在歷經了921大地震後依然屹立不搖。站在這座散發著日式古典氣息的木造車站前，彷彿時間都慢了下來。
The guide board beside the station documents its history from establishment and its glorious opening to its eventual closure due to the completion of the new railway line. Shengxing Station has witnessed the most significant chapter in the development history of Taiwan’s railways.
車站旁的導覽牌。記載著車站從設站、輝煌的通車，到後來因新線完工而停駛。勝興車站經歷了台灣鐵路發展歷史上最重要的一段。
Transformed from an old building, “Oil Depot Black Oil Coffee" features an exterior shaped like a massive vintage black steam locomotive. The giant clock design is incredibly eye-catching, making it an absolute must-visit spot for a photo!
由舊建築改造而成的「油庫黑油咖啡」，把外觀做成了巨大的復古黑色蒸汽火車頭，巨大的時鐘造型非常吸睛，在這裡拍張照是一定要的！
During the Japanese colonial period in the early 20th century, the mountainous area of Shengxing was rich in timber resources. To transport the logged timber down the mountain, people came up with the idea of using ox carts to carry the wood to Shengxing Station. To give the oxen a comfortable place to rest, simple thatched huts were built here, which is how “Niucheliao" (Ox Cart Huts) got its name.
20世紀初的日治時期，勝興山區盛產木材資源。人們為了將砍下的木材搬運下山，想到利用牛車將木材運送至勝興車站。為了讓牛可以舒適的休息，在這裡用茅草搭起簡易茅草屋，這就是「牛車寮」的由來。
“Niucheliao" was a humble settlement made of thatched huts, interestingly divided into the “Upper Road" and the “Lower Road." The Upper Road, closer to the mountain, served as the “Ox Huts" for the oxen to rest. The Lower Road, located on flatter ground, was the “Cart Drivers’ Huts," housing the drivers and their families.
「牛車寮」是由茅草屋組合而成的簡陋聚落，有趣地的是分為「上路」與「下路」，上路為靠山的「牛寮」是給牛隻休息用的。下路則是較為平坦的「車伕寮」是車伕與車伕家人的住所。
On weekdays, the drivers’ families were responsible for cutting grass on the mountain to feed the oxen, while the drivers drove the ox carts to transport goods. As forest logging regulations became stricter and charcoal was replaced by natural gas, the cart-pulling cattle and their drivers gradually faded into history, and Niucheliao transitioned from prosperity into historical memory.
平日裡，車伕的家人負責上山割草餵牛；車伕則趕著牛車，運送物資。隨著山林砍伐管制逐漸嚴格，加上木炭被天然氣與瓦斯取代，靠拉車的黃牛與車伕漸漸走入歷史，牛車寮也從繁華走入歷史記憶。
Standing in the center of the parallel train tracks and looking into the distance, the gravel path and the old platforms on both sides look exceptionally serene against the backdrop of blue sky, white clouds, and lush green mountains. Although no trains run here now, it has become everyone’s favorite secret walking trail, allowing visitors to walk on the tracks and experience the romance of being a railfan for a day.
站在平行的鐵軌中央向遠方望去，碎石子路和兩側的老月台，在藍天白雲與翠綠群山的襯托下顯得格外靜謐。現在這裡雖然沒有火車通行，但成了大家最愛的散步秘境，走在軌道上體驗當一日鐵道迷的浪漫。
Walking into the green corridor behind the station, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the street and enjoy an extra touch of tranquility. This large, colorful snail painted with butterflies and tung blossoms quietly stands guard by the green lawn, making people marvel at the ingenuity and vitality of Hakka cultural and creative arts.
走進車站後方的綠色廊道，這裡避開了街上的熱鬧，多了一份清幽。路旁這隻身上彩繪著蝴蝶與油桐花的彩色大蝸牛，默默地守候在綠地旁，讓人忍不住讚嘆客家文創的巧思與活力。
Next, we came to this wooden trestle bridge adorned with the words “Flying Snow." Just imagine during the tung blossom season in April and May every year, the blossoms falling like snowflakes here must look as beautiful as a fairyland! Although it wasn’t the blossom season during this visit, the endless lush green mountain view and fresh air still made me feel completely refreshed.
接著來到了這座寫著「飛雪」的木棧橋。想像一下在每年的四、五月油桐花季時，這裡的桐花如雪片般飄落，一定美得像仙境一樣！雖然這次來不是花季，但滿眼的翠綠山景與清新的空氣，依舊讓人心情舒暢。
If you get tired from walking, you can take a break at the nearby market. Since Miaoli County is home to many Hakka people, a bowl of handmade Hakka flat rice noodles (Bantiao) is an absolute must. The chewy and springy noodles, paired with the unique Hakka signature fried shallots, instantly make all the walking fatigue melt away.
如果走累了，可以在旁邊市集歇個腳，苗栗縣住著很多客家族群，既然來了一碗純手工製作的客家粄條是必須的，Q彈有勁的粄條，搭配客家人獨有的招牌油蔥，瞬間讓走路的疲勞消失。
Shengxing Station is a local Taiwanese attraction that shows great dedication in everything from its environment and stories to its food ingredients! If you have the chance to travel to Miaoli, Taiwan, you absolutely cannot miss this journey interwoven with railways and delicious food.
