I’m coco. Welcome to my blog, a space dedicated to documenting the beautiful scenery, delicious food, and rich culture across Taiwan. I hope that through my footsteps, you can get to know Taiwan much better.

Today we are visiting a mysterious teahouse hidden at the foot of Shuangfeng Mountain in Tongluo Township, Miaoli County—"TwinPeaksTeahouse".

“Because it’s located halfway up the mountain, you have to walk up a short slope and turn a corner. Nestled among the lush green tree shade, you’ll spot white parasols and red seats—this is the outdoor seating area of TwinPeaksTeahouse."

The owner, ‘Papa Hong,’ and his wife were originally local industry consultants in Taichung. When they moved to Tongluo over 20 years ago, this place was completely overgrown with wild weeds. With his own two hands, brick by brick, planting flowers and trees, Papa Hong spent a full 20 years clearing and tending the land, finally transforming the barren hillside into the lush, healing secret garden it is today.

Later, the family decided to open a teahouse to fulfill their dream, inspired by a delightful thought: ‘Since we live in Tongluo (which means copper gong in Chinese), how can we not have Tongluo-shao (dorayaki) to eat?’ Thus, this warm glass teahouse was born. They hope to provide a peaceful place for every traveler visiting Tongluo to take a break and feel the tranquility of the mountain forest.

When you arrive at the teahouse, don’t rush straight inside! Very clear “ordering process" and rule signs are set up near the entrance and wooden chairs. The minimum indoor consumption is one drink or ice cream per person (note: dorayaki does not count toward the minimum charge). Moreover, because this is a cozy home where cats live comfortably, guests are specially reminded: “Please do not pet or follow the cats."

Following the signs to the front of the teahouse, large floor-to-ceiling glass windows sparkle in the sunlight, and the wooden sliding doors exude a rich sense of Japanese Zen, adorned with a Hakka-friendly shop label. Looking at the cute hand-painted graffiti on the left wooden wall, it reads: “Slowly pull the window, gently move the chair, wash hands first, smile with a happy face." These few short words hide the tenderness of the teahouse—the owner hopes that every traveler coming into the mountains can slow down their hectic urban pace, gently open the door, move chairs softly, wash their hands before dining, and enjoy a slow life with a relaxed, smiling face.

Stepping inside the shop, you are greeted by the rich aroma of eggs and coffee! The wooden counter is clean and cozy, filled with adorable Doraemon figurines.

The menu offers a wide variety of choices! From classic red bean and local taro to unique selections like lemon cream cheese, hojicha, and Pingtung cocoa, each is priced between NT$50 and NT$70, which is highly affordable.

While waiting for your food, you can head over to the self-service area to pour a glass of water. A large, beautifully engraved clear glass pitcher is filled with clean drinking water, with Japanese tea cups neatly lined up underneath. The teahouse has also thoughtfully prepared mosquito repellent and ointment on the table; after all, when interacting with nature in the mountains, mosquito protection is highly essential.

The staff behind the counter are extremely busy, preparing fresh dorayaki right in front of you. Perfectly round, satisfyingly fluffy pancakes sizzle on the hot iron plate.

Papa Hong strongly insists on a “local connection," sourcing ingredients from Taiwanese origins whenever possible! For instance, the red beans are from Daliao, Pingtung; the taro is locally grown in Tongluo; the matcha comes from Guanxi, Hsinchu; and even the cocoa is selected from Pingtung.

The piping hot food is finally served! This time, I ordered the freshly baked dorayaki. The crust has a delicate, moist, and dense texture that isn’t dry at all, encasing a generous, solid red bean filling! It pairs beautifully with a whole pot of freshly brewed, subtly fragrant iced black tea. In the peaceful atmosphere of the mountain forest, a bite of dessert followed by a sip of tea gently wraps up all the fatigue of daily life

TwinPeaksTeahouse is truly a local Taiwanese establishment that pours its heart into everything from its environment and history to its ingredients! If you ever have the chance to travel to Miaoli, Taiwan, you absolutely cannot miss this Japanese-style wooden cabin hidden in the mountains. Since everything is made to order and quantities are limited, I highly recommend arriving early to secure a spot so you don’t miss out on your favorite flavors! See you next time.END.
END.
